I bought my Palm Treo 600 in the summer 2004, that’s slightly more than 4 years (“and counting”) ago.
Being slightly clumsy, I do drop it, now and then.
The model in question also does not have an option to replace the battery.
I’ve begun questioning what to replace it with, “the day it will no longer be(/-ar) with me”.
The thing most used is the HandyShopper, a separate (and free!) programme written by Christopher Antos.
As far as I’ve understood, there may be a version for PocketPC available, but I’m a little unsure how updated that version is (or if it ever made it that far).
Otherwise, the Treo 600 has features found in most modern mobile phones on the market – nothing “special”, really.
So:-
I could either buy “any mobile phone” (which in my case most probably would result in me going back to my previous phone), and skip the HandyShopper programme from then on.
Or, I could use my old mobile phone, and buy a new Palm PDA-only-no-smartphone. (Or use my old PDA, but then I’d have to return to an older version of the HandyShopper.)
*hm* Actually did a search now, seems to be a working PocketPC / Windows Mobile version available…
…and there are more recent versions available for the Palm OS as well (since PalmGear went down (or rather merged with PocketGear), I’ve lost trace of updates et al).
This means it doesn’t really matter what smartphone OS I’ll end up with, I’ll probably be able to use HandyShopper even without my Treo 600.
*phew* …but I think I’ll hold on to the Treo 600 for a little longer anyways (smartphones aren’t that cheap… )
Well, this ended up being a rather useless post …but I’ll post it anyways…
[The Yahoo group for the HandyShopper programme, with a link to a separate home page]
…the somewhat stupid thing is that I’ve known about the Yahoo group “more or less since I began using the HandyShopper”, but don’t really follow it (i.e. miss postings re updates et al)
